Acular LS is a medicine used to reduce eye pain and burning/stinging after a type of eye surgery called corneal refractive surgery. Acular LS is available as eye drops.
How does this medication work?
Acular LS is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by blocking a natural substance in the body that is involved in causing inflammation and pain.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: Acular LS has been shown to reduce eye pain as well as burning/stinging following eye surgery.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's instructions. It is important that you use Acular LS exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
You may notice an improvement in your symptoms once you begin using Acular LS. This is a good indicator that the medicine is working. Your healthcare provider may also ask you questions to assess how well your symptoms are controlled.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
More common side effects may include: small, hazy, grayish spots in the cornea (clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye); headache; eye redness, swelling, or pain.
Less common side effects may include:
Slow or delayed healing of the eye after surgery.
Acular LS may also cause inflammation of the cornea.
Do not use Acular LS if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Acular LS. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you are allergic to aspirin or other NSAIDs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen); have bleeding problems or are taking a medicine that may affect bleeding; have diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, or any other eye problems (such as dry eye syndrome); have had repeat eye surgeries within a short period of time; or are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults and children ≥3 years: Apply 1 drop into the affected eye(s) 4 times a day as needed, for up to 4 days after surgery.
Use Acular LS exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not use it more often without first talking to your healthcare provider.
If you are using Acular LS with other eye medicines, the medicines should be applied at least 5 minutes apart.
If you have had surgery on both eyes, be sure to use one bottle of Acular LS for each eye. Do not use the same bottle for both eyes.
Do not let the tip of the Acular LS bottle touch your eye, fingers, or any other surfaces because this could contaminate the tip of the bottle.
Do not wear contact lenses while applying Acular LS.
No significant interactions have been reported with Acular LS at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
