Gentak ointment is a medicine used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes.
How does this medication work?
Gentak ointment works by killing the bacteria causing your infection.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: Gentak ointment may help clear or relieve the symptoms of certain eye infections.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's directions. It is important that you use Gentak ointment exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
You may notice an improvement in your eye symptoms once you begin using Gentak ointment. This is a good indicator that your medicine is working. Your healthcare provider may ask you questions to assess how well your symptoms are controlled.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
More common side effects may include: eyelid burning and irritation, eye redness.
Less common side effects may include:
Gentak ointment may slow down healing of the cornea (the clear tissue over the pupil of the eye).
Do not use Gentak ointment if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Gentak ointment. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults: Apply a small amount (approximately ½ inch) to the affected area(s) two or three times a day.
Use Gentak ointment exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not use it more often or stop using Gentak ointment without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Do not allow the tip of the container to touch your eye, eyelid, or any other surface, as this can contaminate Gentak ointment.
No significant interactions have been reported with Gentak ointment at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The effects of Gentak ointment during pregnancy are unknown. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of Gentak ointment, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.
Store at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
