    • What is this medication and its most common uses?

      Paremyd is an eye drop medicine used to temporarily dilate the pupils for certain procedures or in conditions where short-term pupil dilation is desired. Paremyd contains two medicines: hydroxyamphetamine and tropicamide.

    • What should I know when beginning and continuing on this medication?

      How does this medication work?

      Hydroxyamphetamine works by stimulating the release of a chemical in the eye that causes your pupils to dilate. Tropicamide works by blocking the response of a muscle in the eye, thereby allow the pupils to dilate.

      What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?

      What: By dilating your pupils, Paremyd may help your healthcare provider examine and treat your eyes.

      When: Paremyd may start working within 15 minutes.

      How do I know it is working?

      Your healthcare provider will assess how well this medication is working.

    • What are the possible side effects of this medication?

      The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.

      More common side effects may include: increased pressure in the eye, temporary stinging, dry mouth, blurry vision, eye discomfort in bright light, increased heart rate, headache, allergic reactions, nausea, vomiting, paleness, muscle rigidity.

      Less common side effects may include:

      Paremyd may cause psychotic reactions or behavioral disturbances.

    • Who should not take this medication?

      Do not use Paremyd if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.

      Do not use Paremyd if you have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) or if you are at risk for glaucoma.

    • What should I tell my healthcare provider before I take the first dose of this medication?

      Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Paremyd. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have thyroid or heart problems, high blood pressure, glaucoma, or diabetes.

    • What is the usual dosage?

      The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.

      Adults: The usual dose is one to two drops in the lower eyelid(s).

    • How should I take this medication?

      Use Paremyd exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

      Wash your hands after using Paremyd.

      Protect your eyes from bright light while your pupils are dilated.

    • What should I avoid while taking this medication?

      Do not touch the dropper tip to any surface, as this may contaminate the solution.

      Do not drive, operate heavy machinery, or do other dangerous activities while your pupils are dilated.

      Do not get Paremyd solution in your mouth.

    • What are the possible food and drug interactions associated with this medication?

      No significant interactions have been reported with Paremyd at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.

    • May I receive this medication if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

      The effects of Paremyd during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

    • What should I do if I miss a dose of this medication?

      Paremyd should be given under special circumstances determined by your healthcare provider.

    • How should I store this medication?

      Your healthcare provider will store this medication for you.
