    • What is this medication and its most common uses?

Renova is a topical medicine (applied directly on the skin) used to reduce fine facial wrinkles in people who are using a total skin care and sunlight avoidance program. Renova is available as a cream.

    • What should I know when beginning and continuing on this medication?

      How does this medication work?

Renova is thought to work by enhancing the peeling of skin, and by slowing down the way the body removes skin cells that may be harmed by the sun.

Renova does not remove wrinkles, repair sun-damaged skin, reverse aging caused by the sun, or restore more youthful or younger skin.

What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?

What: In studies, more than 60% of people treated with Renova found their fine wrinkles to be less apparent after 24 weeks of treatment.

When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's directions. It is important that you use Renova exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.

How do I know it is working?

You may start to notice an improvement in the appearance of your skin after starting treatment with Renova. This is a good indicator that your medication is working.

    • What are the possible side effects of this medication?

The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.

More common side effects may include: peeling, dry skin, burning, stinging, redness, itching.

Less common side effects may include:

Harm to your unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you believe or suspect you are pregnant while you are using Renova.

    • Who should not take this medication?

Do not use Renova if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.

Do not use Renova if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant.

    • What should I tell my healthcare provider before I take the first dose of this medication?

Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Renova. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have eczema (an inflammation or irritation of the skin), sunburned skin, are sensitive to sunlight, or if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

    • What is the usual dosage?

The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.

Adults: Apply a small, pearl-sized amount to your face once a day, in the evening.

    • How should I take this medication?

Use Renova exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not apply more or use Renova more often without first talking to your healthcare provider.

Apply Renova to clean, dry skin. In the evening, gently wash your face with a mild soap. Pat your skin dry and wait 20 to 30 minutes before applying Renova.

Apply only a small pearl-sized amount of Renova to your face at one time. This should be enough to cover the entire affected area lightly.

You may feel warmth or slight stinging after you apply Renova. This is temporary.

Do not wash your face or apply other skin care products or cosmetics for at least one hour after applying Renova. If you apply cosmetics, be sure to wash the area to be treated before applying Renova.

In the morning, apply a moisturizing sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or greater.

    • What should I avoid while taking this medication?

Do not become pregnant while you are using Renova.

Do not expose your skin to excessive sunlight and ultraviolet lights (such as sunlamps or tanning beds) while using Renova. Use a daily sunscreen and protective clothing to protect your skin from sunlight.

Do not expose your skin to extreme cold weather and wind, as it may dry out or make your skin more prone to wind burn.

Do not use skin products that can dry or irritate your skin because skin dryness and irritation are increased with Renova.

Do not get Renova in your eyes, ears, nostrils, angles of your nose, or mouth.

    • What are the possible food and drug interactions associated with this medication?

If Renova is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your healthcare provider before combining Renova with the following: medicated soaps or skin cleansers; products that contain alcohol, astringents, or spices; or other medicines that increase your sensitivity to sunlight (such as hydrochlorothiazide, doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, chlorpromazine, or sulfamethoxazole).

    • May I receive this medication if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Renova may harm your unborn baby if used during pregnancy. Do not use Renova during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

    • What should I do if I miss a dose of this medication?

If you miss a dose of Renova, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.
