What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: K-Phos Neutral may help restore normal blood phosphorus levels in your body.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's directions. It is important that you take K-Phos Neutral exactly as your healthcare provider prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
Your healthcare provider may also order tests regularly and ask you questions from time to time to check how well this medication is working.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
Side effects may include: diarrhea; nausea; stomach pain; vomiting; bone or joint pain; irregular heartbeat; dizziness; mental confusion; weakness or heaviness of legs; tiredness; muscle cramps; tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in the hands, feet, or lips; shortness of breath or trouble breathing; swelling of feet or lower legs; weight gain; decreased urination; thirst.
Do not take K-Phos Neutral if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Do not take K-Phos Neutral if you have infected phosphate stones or severe kidney impairment.
Do not take K-Phos Neutral if you have high blood phosphorus levels.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with K-Phos Neutral. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have heart failure or problems; severe adrenal insufficiency (a disorder where the body does not make enough of certain hormones), such as Addison's disease (adrenal gland failure); kidney stones or problems; severe burns; muscle problems; liver problems; leg or feet swelling; fluid retention in the lungs; high blood sodium level; high blood pressure; preeclampsia (high blood pressure during pregnancy); hypoparathyroidism (underactive parathyroid gland); pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas); or if you are dehydrated, or are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults: The recommended dose is 1 to 2 tablets four times daily.
Children >4 years: The recommended dose is 1 tablet four times daily.
Take K-Phos Neutral exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change your dose or stop taking K-Phos Neutral without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Take K-Phos Neutral with a full glass of water.
Take K-Phos Neutral with meals and at bedtime.
Do not take antacids containing aluminum, calcium, or magnesium.
If K-Phos Neutral is used with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. K-Phos Neutral may interact with numerous medications. Therefore, it is very important that you tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking.
The effects of K-Phos Neutral during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of K-Phos Neutral, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
Store at room temperature.
In the event of a medical emergency call your doctor or 9-1-1 immediately. In the event of overdose, call your doctor or poison control for further instructions.
