Lastacaft is an eye drop medicine used to prevent itching associated with eye allergies.
How does this medication work?
Lastacaft works by blocking the release of a chemical in your body called histamine that causes allergic symptoms.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: By blocking histamine release, Lastacaft may help improve your symptoms.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's instructions. It is important that you use Lastacaft exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
You may notice an improvement in your eye symptoms after you start using Lastacaft. This is a good indicator that the medicine is working. Your healthcare provider may ask you questions from time to time to check how well your symptoms are controlled.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
Common side effects may include: eye irritation, burning and/or stinging in your eyes after administration, eye redness or itching.
Do not use Lastacaft if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Lastacaft. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you wear contact lenses, or have contact lens-related irritation.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults and children ≥2 years: Apply one drop in each eye once a day.
Use Lastacaft exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not use it more often or stop using Lastacaft without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Lastacaft contains a preservative that may be absorbed by your contact lenses. Remove your contact lenses prior to Lastacaft administration. You may reinsert them 10 minutes after you apply Lastacaft.
If you are using another eye medicine, apply it at least 5 minutes before or after applying Lastacaft.
Do not allow the tip of the bottle to touch your eyes or any other surface, as this can contaminate Lastacaft.
Do not wear contact lenses if your eyes are red.
No significant interactions have been reported with Lastacaft at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The effects of Lastacaft during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of Lastacaft, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.
Store at room temperature.
In the event of a medical emergency call your doctor or 9-1-1 immediately. In the event of overdose, call your doctor or poison control for further instructions.
