Muse is a medicine used to treat men with erectile dysfunction. Muse is available as a urethral suppository to be inserted in the urethra.
How does this medication work?
Muse works by relaxing blood vessels in the penis. By relaxing the blood vessels, Muse increases the blood flow to the penis and helps men with erectile dysfunction get and keep an erection satisfactory for sexual activity.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What:Studies have shown that Muse improved a man’s ability to have sexual intercourse.
When: When used on an as-needed basis, Muse may start working within 5-10 minutes and may work up to 30-60 minutes.
How do I know it is working?
You may start to notice an improvement in your ability to have sexual intercourse. This is a good indicator that your medication is working. Your healthcare provider may ask you questions from time to time to assess how well your medicine is working and to check for improvement of your condition.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
More common side effects may include: aching in the penis, testicles, legs, and perineum (the area between the penis and the rectum); warmth or burning sensation in the urethra; redness of the penis.
Less common side effects may include:
Sudden drop in blood pressure with symptoms such as dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting. Stop sexual activity and get medical help right away if you develop chest pain, dizziness, or nausea during sex.
An erection that lasts many hours. Get medical help right away if you get an erection that lasts more than 4 hours. If this is not treated right away, permanent damage to your penis can occur.
Muse may also cause swelling of the veins in your legs, lightheadedness, dizziness, or increased heart rate.
Do not use Muse if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Do not use Muse if you have an abnormally formed penis.
Do not use Muse if you have been advised not to undertake sexual activity.
Do not use Muse if you have conditions that may result in long-lasting erections (such as sickle cell anemia, leukemia, or tumor of the bone marrow).
Do not use Muse for sexual intercourse with a pregnant woman, unless a condom is used.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Muse. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have heart problems (such as chest pain, heart failure, irregular heartbeats, or history of a heart attack); low blood pressure or high blood pressure that is not controlled; or a deformed penis shape.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Men: The recommended dose is one suppository, inserted as needed, about 5-10 minutes before expected sexual activity. Do not use more than 2 suppositories in 24 hours.
Use Muse exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change your dose or use Muse more often without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Please review the instructions that came with your prescription on how to properly use and discard Muse.
Do not drive a car, operate heavy machinery, or engage in other dangerous activities while you are using Muse.
No significant interactions have been reported with Muse at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Muse is not for use in women.
Muse is not for regular use. Use it only before sexual activity as directed by your healthcare provider.
Store in the refrigerator. You may also store at room temperature for up to 14 days. Protect from heat and sunlight.
In the event of a medical emergency call your doctor or 9-1-1 immediately. In the event of overdose, call your doctor or poison control for further instructions.
