Omnipred is an eye drop used to treat inflammatory conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis ("pink eye"). Omnipred may also be used to treat other inflammatory conditions, as determined by your healthcare provider.
How does this medication work?
Omnipred works by stopping the release of certain substances in the body that cause swelling, thereby reducing swelling in your eyes.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: Omnipred may improve swelling and reduce pain in the eyes.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's directions. It is important that you use Omnipred exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
You may feel an improvement in your eye pain and swelling once you begin using Omnipred. This is a good indicator that your medication is working. Your healthcare provider may ask you questions to assess how well your symptoms are controlled.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
More common side effects may include: increased pressure in your eye, cataracts (clouding of the lens of the eye), delayed wound healing.
Less common side effects may include:
Eye problems, such as glaucoma (high pressure in the eye) or eye infections.
Do not use Omnipred if you are allergic to it, any of its ingredients, or to other similar medicines (such as dexamethasone).
Do not use Omnipred if you have an eye infection.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Omnipred. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have glaucoma, certain eye infections, or if you plan to have a cataract surgery.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults: Apply 2 drops into the affected eye(s) four times a day.
Use Omnipred exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not use it more often or stop using Omnipred without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Shake the bottle well before using it.
Do not allow the tip of the bottle to touch your eyelid or any other surface, as this can contaminate Omnipred.
No significant interactions have been reported with Omnipred at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The effects of Omnipred during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Do not breastfeed while you are using Omnipred. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of Omnipred, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.
Store at room temperature, in an upright position.
In the event of a medical emergency call your doctor or 9-1-1 immediately. In the event of overdose, call your doctor or poison control for further instructions.
