    • What is this medication and its most common uses?

      Qudexy XR is a medicine used alone or in combination with other medicines to treat certain types of seizures.

    • What should I know when beginning and continuing on this medication?

      How does this medication work?

      Qudexy XR is thought to work by helping to keep electrical signals balanced in the brain.

      What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?

      What: Qudexy XR has been shown to decrease the frequency of seizures when taken alone or in combination with another seizure medication.

      When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's directions. It is important that you take Qudexy XR exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.

      How do I know it is working?

      You may notice a decrease in the number of seizures you normally experience after you start taking Qudexy XR.Your healthcare provider may also ask you questions from time to time that will help assess how well your seizures are controlled with treatment.

    • What are the possible side effects of this medication?

      The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.

      More common side effects may include: tingling or numbness of your hands or feet; loss of appetite; weight loss; tiredness; dizziness; drowsiness; nervousness; mental slowing; difficulty with memory, concentration, or attention; confusion; mood problems; fever; infection; warm, hot, burning feeling to your face.

      Less common side effects may include:

      Eye problems that can lead to permanent loss of vision if not treated, including a sudden decrease in vision with or without eye pain and redness, or a blockage of fluid in your eye causing closed-angle glaucoma (high pressure in the eye).

      Decreased sweating and increased body temperature, with symptoms such as a high fever, fever that does not go away, or decreased sweating.

      Metabolic acidosis (increased level of acid in the blood) that can cause brittle or soft bone, kidney stones, slow the rate of growth in children, or possibly harm your unborn baby if you are pregnant. Symptoms include tiredness, loss of appetite, changes in heartbeat, and trouble thinking clearly.

      Increased suicidal thoughts or actions, with symptoms such as having thoughts about suicide or dying; attempting to commit suicide; new or worse depression, anxiety, or irritability; panic attacks; trouble sleeping; feeling agitated or restless; acting aggressive; being angry or violent; acting on dangerous impulses; an extreme increase in activity and talking; or other unusual changes in your behavior or mood.

      High ammonia levels in your blood, with symptoms such as decreased alertness, tiredness, or vomiting.

      Qudexy XR may harm your unborn baby if taken during pregnancy. Talk to your healthcare provider about other treatment options if you plan to become pregnant. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you become pregnant while taking Qudexy XR.

      If taken along with valproate, Qudexy XR may also cause low body temperature, tiredness, or confusion.

    • Who should not take this medication?

      Do not take Qudexy XR if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.

      Do not take Qudexy XR if you have been told you have metabolic acidosis and are taking a medicine called metformin at the same time.

    • What should I tell my healthcare provider before I take the first dose of this medication?

      Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Qudexy XR. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you have eye problems (such as glaucoma); growth problems; kidney problems (such as kidney stones, or if you are on dialysis); diarrhea; liver problems; lung or breathing problems; weak, brittle, or soft bones; a history of metabolic acidosis; depression, mood problems, or suicidal thoughts or behavior; are on a ketogenic diet (a diet high in fat and low in carbohydrates); are having surgery; or if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

    • What is the usual dosage?

      The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.

      Adults and children: Your healthcare provider will prescribe the appropriate dose for you or your child, based on the type of seizures being treated and other seizure medicines you or your child are taking.

      If you have kidney problems, are on dialysis, or take certain medicines, your healthcare provider may adjust your dose appropriately.

      It is important that you do not stop taking this medication abruptly. If you need to change or stop taking this medication, it is important that you only do so with the guidance of your healthcare provider.

    • How should I take this medication?

      Take Qudexy XR exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change your dose or stop taking Qudexy XR without first talking to your healthcare provider.

      Qudexy XR may be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew the capsules before swallowing them.

      If you cannot swallow the capsule whole, you may carefully open the Qudexy XR capsule and sprinkle the medicine on a spoonful of soft food (such as applesauce). Swallow the mixture right away. Do not store any for later use. Drink fluids right after eating the mixture to make sure you swallowed it all. Do not crush or chew the mixture before swallowing it.

      You can take Qudexy XR before, during, or after a meal.

      Drink plenty of fluids during the day. This may help prevent kidney stones while you are taking Qudexy XR.

    • What should I avoid while taking this medication?

      Do not drink alcohol while you are taking Qudexy XR.

      Do not drive a car, operate heavy machinery, or engage in other dangerous activity until you know how Qudexy XR affects you.

    • What are the possible food and drug interactions associated with this medication?

      If Qudexy XR is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important to check with your healthcare provider before combining Qudexy XR with the following: acetazolamide, alcohol or other medicines that slow down your brain function, birth control pills, dichlorphenamide, lithium, metformin, other seizure medicines (such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or valproic acid), or zonisamide.

    • May I receive this medication if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

      If taken during pregnancy, Qudexy XR can harm your unborn baby. Qudexy XR can be found in your breast milk if you take it while breastfeeding. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.

      If you become pregnant while taking Qudexy XR, talk to your healthcare provider about registering with the North American Antiepileptic Drug (NAAED) Pregnancy Registry. The purpose of this registry is to collect information about the safety of seizure medicines during pregnancy.

    • What should I do if I miss a dose of this medication?

      If you miss one dose of Qudexy XR, take it as soon as you remember. However, if you miss more than one dose, call your healthcare provider or pharmacist for advice. Do not take two doses at once.

    • How should I store this medication?

      Store at room temperature. Protect from moisture.
