Xiidra is an eye drop solution used to treat the signs and symptoms of dry eye disease.
How does this medication work?
Xiidra is thought to work by reducing inflammation associated with dry eye disease, thereby helping to relieve your symptoms.
What are the beneficial effects of this medication and when should I begin to have results?
What: In clinical studies, a larger reduction in eye dryness score (a test eye doctors use to evaluate symptoms of dry eye disease) was seen in people receiving Xiidra compared to those not receiving Xiidra.
When: Everyone responds differently to treatment, so try to be patient and follow your healthcare provider's instructions. It is important that you use Xiidra exactly as your healthcare provider has prescribed.
How do I know it is working?
You may notice an improvement in your dry eye symptoms after you start using Xiidra. This is a good indicator that the medicine is working. Your healthcare provider may ask you questions to assess how well your condition is controlled.
The following is not a full list of side effects. Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, tell your healthcare provider as soon as possible. Only your healthcare provider can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking this medication.
Common side effects may include: eye irritation, discomfort, or blurred vision when the drops are applied to the eyes; unusual taste sensation.
Do not use Xiidra if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal medications you are taking before beginning treatment with Xiidra. Also, talk to your healthcare provider about your complete medical history, especially if you are using any other eye drops, wear contact lenses, are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
The information below is based on the dosage guidelines your healthcare provider uses. Depending on your condition and medical history, your healthcare provider may prescribe a different regimen. Do not change the dosage or stop taking your medication without your healthcare provider's approval.
Adults and adolescents ≥17 years: The recommended dose is 1 drop in each eye twice a day (about 12 hours apart).
Use Xiidra exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. Do not change your dose or stop using Xiidra without first talking to your healthcare provider.
Use Xiidra right away after opening it. Throw away the single-use container and any unused solution after you have applied the dose to both eyes. Do not save any unused medicine for later.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Xiidra, and wait 15 minutes after applying Xiidra before putting your contact lenses back in your eyes.
Be sure to review the instructions that came with your prescription before you start using Xiidra.
Do not allow the tip of the bottle to touch your eye or any other surface, as this can contaminate Xiidra.
No significant interactions have been reported with Xiidra at this time. However, always tell your healthcare provider about any medicines you take, including over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
The effects of Xiidra during pregnancy and breastfeeding are unknown. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
If you miss a dose of Xiidra, apply it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply two doses at once.
Store at room temperature in the original foil pouch.
